Headteacher’s Full Message

Welcome to our school website. I hope you enjoy looking around the site and learning about our school and the many exciting and enriching learning opportunities we provide for all of our pupils. If you do require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Staff at Stanley Crook Primary School are committed to delivering a curriculum which is dynamic, fun and meaningful in a safe and secure environment based on mutual trust and respect. We are passionate about improving outcomes for all of our pupils.

Following a successful Ofsted inspection in February 2019, there are many exciting opportunities ahead for our school and wider community, as we drive forward further school improvement. Please feel free to view our most recent Ofsted report on this site or via Ofsted | Stanley (Crook) Primary School.

A new focus on developing a strategy to further support and enhance learning outside of the classroom (LOTC) is providing many new and exciting opportunities for school improvement. The new LOTC classroom is now complete and is fully operational – this area is already providing pupils across the school with additional learning opportunities to enhance learning across all curriculum subjects!

To further enhance LOTC activities and provision in school , our new Science/ Nature Habitat area on the school field is also complete and will increase opportunities and experience for pupils to explore, learn and develop new science skills in a real life context. This area is also aimed at providing vital mental health and wellbeing support for our pupils, particularly as we continue our educational recovery post-COVID.

The mental health and wellbeing of our pupils is a key priority at Stanley Crook Primary School. Within school, all staff receive regular updates to training and professional development so that early identification of pupils experiencing difficulties in their lives can be provided with effective support via intervention programmes. Initiatives and schemes such as Zippy’s Friends, Apple’s Friends and Therapeutic Story Writing all provide effective support – as does our close relationship with external providers such as The Prince William Award, Durham Constabulary Junior Education Programme, BigFoot Art Education and the NSPCC, for example.

School continues to be committed to supporting local community projects with the aim of broadening and deepening our pupil’s understanding of the importance of such projects. Recently, work with Shildon Alive Food Bank,  Tesco, Durham Action on Social Housing and the Fire Service have provided pupils with a range of opportunities to support members of our community less fortunate than ourselves and to learn all about local and national issues.

There are many more exciting learning opportunities planned and I look forward to updating our website with details soon. In the meantime, please take a look at my Headteacher’s Blog on the Home page for up to date activities and events happening in school.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mr D Christie
